Concert Summary

Early rock guitarist Link Wray has the distinction of being one of the only—if not the only—guitarist to have been banned from the radio for an instrumental song. The ominous and gritty slow blues number “Rumble” (1958) scared the hell out of radio programmers who were convinced that Wray was glamorizing juvenile delinquency and anti-social behavior. (Someone tipped them off that “Rumble” is a street term for gang-fight that was popularized by the musical West Side Story.) What DJs didn’t realize was that Wray was breaking barriers for guitarists: He created his fuzzy reverb sound by…entire summary

Hey there people, thanks for the comments. Over the weekend we will be changing the band name to Link Wray and Robert Gordon. Apologies for letting this one slip. Also, we'll be making changes to song names some of you have pointed out. Thanks again for the comments. - Your archivist.

Yeah Bebo .. I dont want to sound ungrateful either. I love this site. I hope they take you up on the offer. BTW, they got a lot of titles wrong on the posting of the Earth Quake show from Berkeley. I wonder if they are doing that deliberately to throw the RIAA* off the scent? *Rich Ignoramuses Acting Audaciously

Yeah , I agree with anonymous, Wolfgangs Vault continually gets it wrong with the facts. Hey I'm available to write the reviews just let me in the vault. Still appreciate this excellent web site though, they just need to do their homework.

thanks Yonder it's weird the stuff WV gets wrong or incomplete. BTW, do you think RG got billing on this show originally? The tracks are just about all from the RG w/ LR albums. Except Rumble, which I imagine LW has to do every time he's on a stage anywhere ... or the audience will riot.

Oh, so that is Robert Gordon on the vocals! I was wondering, because from the other Link Wray recordings available on Wolfgang's Vault, Link's voice does not sound as good at the singer's voice on this recording and the singer on this recording sounds just as good, if not better, than Robert Gordon. :-D

Yes, it's Gordon: the introduction at the beginning says "Robert Gordan and Link Wray."

Must Be Going Around is actually titled Boppin the Blues

  • Anonymous | Wednesday, July 23, 2008 | 9:59 am

Isn't that Robert Gordon on vocals? On "Baby Lets Play House" I think the singer says "Link Wray!"
