Concert Summary

Autograph is one of those faceless ‘80s metal hair bands that had a few MTV hits, helped themselves to their share of sex kitten groupies while on tour and vanished soon thereafter from the rock ’n’ roll mainstream. The band came out of L.A. along with groups like Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue and Poison, but unfortunately for Autograph, never had a superstar guitarist or memorable bad boy lead vocalist. Despite their arguably mediocre material, they…entire summary

Ask steve plunkett about steve isham now. He probably doesn't even know that Isham is on his death bed right now!

Boy, I think that the Concert Summary above is rather mean and totally inaccurate. Autograph (in the 80s - I think that Steve Plunkett along with a different line up of musicians is currently viable in Germany,) was a very talented band, whom I knew a little bit because I tattooed their drummer, Keni Richards. Steve Plunket is a very personable gentleman, he had the most beautiful hair. Hair was really important back then, but the most important thing is he has a tremendous voice, with actual operatic range & a sexy growl. Steve has a fantastic rock persona, plus he was always a really nice guy. Randy Rand was the rock & roll bad boy, very charming & rather sinister... in a good way. Keni Richards was a character, full of energy & weirdness & he is an excellent drummer. Steve Lynch was rather quiet, so I didn't really know him, but he is one hell of a guitar player. Also, Steve Isham, whom I also did not interact with much, can not be dismissed talent-wise. I see his name on numerous movie soundtracks & I don't think he could get the work if he wasn't a great keyboardist & composer. Autograph opened for Van Halen, Aerosmith, Motley Crue at the height of these bands popularity, none of them would have had a mediocre opening act. Unfortunately, Autograph was competing with a huge number of hair metal bands at a time when the record industry was signing up so many acts it got to be rather ridiculous. Anybody with big hair and girly makeup got signed, and Autograph unfortunately seemed to fall by the wayside. You may also note that the popularity of even the biggest of these types of bands, like Poison, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, or Van Halen, had also begun to wane. The important thing is, Autograph put on a very exciting show, they were well liked by their fans, and they were all incredible musicians. Their music is fun & that's what counts.

Steve Plunkett used to play for another band in the mid-seventies called Wolfgang with a totally different group of musicians. They played bars in the western USA. I used to see them at a bar called Choo-Choo's in Tucson, Az. as a underage teenager. Me, my older sister and her friend used to talk and hang out with them after their sets. We never did anything other than hang with them though, but we always had fun!
