Concert Summary

This incomplete performance by Art Garfunkel was recorded at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall during what had become one his estrangements from Paul Simon. The duo had reunited a number of times since splitting in 1970, but they stopped talking for a period of almost 12 years after Simon snubbed Garfunkel at what would have been a repeat of their successful Central Park appearance.

Even when they couldn’t be in the same room with each other, Garfunkel continued to sing Simon's songs; and though Simon wrote all…entire summary

Nicky's piano is absolutely stellar. But a question - I'm writing a piece for Green Man Review on "Liege & Lief", and I'm curious as to whether AArt's guitarist is actually Simon Nichol, of Fairport Convention? Tracking it down on the Net is not working. Info, please?

Art's voice and performance lights me up from within. Pity the fool who has never experienced his magic. Paul Simon is grait as in "ingrate"...he would have never had the 60's success without Artie's voice to launch those songs into the stratosphere.

This is a wonderful set, albeit short (it would be nice to be able to hear the full show if such tapes exists). I caught AG on the Watermark tour in '78 with Leah Kunkel (Mama Cass Elliot's sister and Russ's wife at that time) on backing vocals and have always felt the guy has never gotten his proper due as a solo artist. I would also like to expand on the information provided in the summary regarding the "12 Year" rift between Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. My recollection is that the rift had less to do with a tour and more to do with the fact that in the early 80s, Simon and Garfunkel had been working on a new album, working title: "Think Too Much." Simon basically scrapped Garfunkle's vocal tracks and other contributions and proclaimed the project to be a solo album which became "Hearts and Bones." Maybe Simon felt the album to personal to be an S&G project (especially regarding his relationship with Carrie Fisher). The title track of that album seemed to be one of the most personal songs Simon had written to that point. And the album proved to be under appreciated and didn't sell all that well, but it has proven to be one of Simon's best. But he essentially totally shut Garfunkel out... That might cause some friction, don't you think?
