Concert Summary

Following disillusionment over the lack of success and the subsequent 1968 breakup of the great British Invasion band, the Zombies, keyboardist Rod Argent and songwriter/guitarist Russ Ballard teamed up to form the progressive rock group Argent. As luck would have it, the Zombies’ final single, "Time of the Season," had just been released in America and became a monumental hit. I have the Argent double live LP "Encore" and this concert is way better than the record. The Fakir is outstanding.

AH, MY MEAT! I saw this band live at the Club Agora on or about June 12, 1973, which happened to be the last day of my high school exams, no one would come with me except my brother, who wasn't really into British rock n roll bands at the time. Problem was, the concert was poorly promoted and maybe 75 people showed up! The local colleges had already let out for the summer and few club-going students were around except for some dedicated locals. Nonetheless, they played a full set anyway, including most of the material on this set, as well as the song "Liar" which had covered by the wretched (but popular)3 Dog Night. A memorable evening, with green strobe lights during the drum solos and great old-time light show from the club light and sound crew.
